What this heuristic check does
An applicant tracking system first looks for text it can read: keywords from the job ad, standard headings, dates, and contact parts. This page mimics that idea with a transparent heuristic — keyword overlap weighted by frequency and rarity, hard-skill coverage, action verbs, measurable results, contact completeness, length, formatting safety, dates, and sections — for a total of 0–100. It does not predict hiring and it is not a guarantee of interviews.
How scoring works
Paste both texts and press Check score. Job-ad terms are ranked by a small TF-IDF weight, the top 30 are checked against the resume, and each of the nine rules scores red, amber, or green. The sample resume and sample job ad on this page reproduce 64/100 so you can confirm the math before trusting your own scan.
| Input | How it is handled | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pasted text | Scored in memory, never sent | 200KB cap |
| PDF resume | Parsed locally with pdf.js | 200KB text, tables flagged |
| DOCX resume | Parsed locally with mammoth.js | Parse fail falls back to paste |
| Job ad | Keywords extracted locally | 200KB cap |
Private alternative to paywalled scans
Many scanners allow one free scan, then require an account, a resume upload, and a subscription for tailored keywords. This page keeps unlimited private scans with no upload and no per-request cost because there is no backend at all.
| Tool | Free scans | Resume handling | Cost model |
|---|---|---|---|
| This page | Unlimited private scans | Stays in page memory, never uploaded | Zero backend, zero per-request cost |
| Jobscan | 1 free scan then paywall | Resume upload to vendor servers | Subscription for full keyword report |
| Rezi | 1 free scan then paywall | Resume upload to vendor servers | Subscription for AI rewrite credits |
| SkillSyncer | 1 free scan then paywall | Resume upload to vendor servers | Subscription for ongoing matching |
Limits you should know
- Pasted text cannot reveal tables, text boxes, headers, footers, or fonts — the formatting rule checks text markers only and advises single-column export.
- Keyword matching is literal and case-insensitive; it does not understand synonyms beyond node/nodejs, k8s/kubernetes, and ci-cd variants.
- Text over 200KB is rejected; long PDFs should be shortened or pasted in parts.
- Stubs never write false experience for you; every inserted line starts with [edit me] and must be rewritten truthfully.
Static hosting for a free page like this still has a monthly bill; if it helped you tailor an application, you can chip in for hosting on the support page.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ATS checker free with no signup?
Yes. It is a static page with no account, no ads, and no backend. You can run unlimited scans in your browser and your text never leaves the page memory.
How do resume keywords from the job description affect my score?
The tool weights job-ad terms by frequency and rarity, then checks which appear in your resume. Missing high-weight terms lower the 30-point keyword rule and appear in the missing list with editable stub bullets.
Is this a private Jobscan or Rezi alternative?
It covers the same keyword-gap idea as Jobscan and Rezi, but everything runs locally with no resume upload and no paywall after one scan. The trade-off is honesty: it is a heuristic check, not a hiring guarantee.
Why was my resume rejected by an ATS?
Common heuristic reasons are missing job keywords, no measurable results, weak action verbs, missing contact parts, unreadable tables or graphics, and unclear dates or sections. The score panel shows each rule in red, amber, or green.
Does my resume leave my device?
No. Scoring runs in this page with no POST, no form action, and no analytics on your text. File parsing uses local libraries only. Closing the tab clears the memory.
What files can I check without uploading?
You can paste text, or open a PDF or DOCX that is parsed locally by pdf.js and mammoth.js. Files are capped at 200KB of text. If a DOCX fails to parse, the tool falls back to pasting.
How do I share my score on Reddit or TikTok?
Use Copy score summary to get a short text block with your total, per-rule dots, and missing skills. It is built for Reddit posts and TikTok captions in the style of creator demos.
